The Global Logistics Convention (GLC) is an annual freight logistics convention of the Federation of East African Freight Forwarders Associations (FEAFFA). It is hosted by member national associations of the Federation. The Convention has been held successfully in four EAC countries, first in 2017 in Tanzania, 2018 in Uganda, 2019 in Rwanda and 2023 in Kenya.

The 2024 Convention is scheduled to take place on 14th – 16th August 2024 in Dar es Salaam hosted by Tanzania Freight Forwarders Association (TAFFA) and the Ministry of Works, Transport and Communications of the United Republic of Tanzania at Johari Rotana Hotel, Dar Es Salaam.

2024 GLC Theme: Africa’s Supply Chain and Logistics industry in the age of sustainability.

The conference will bring together over 500 freight logistics industry experts from across the globe. These will include but not limited be to:

Revenue Authorities; Port Authorities; Development Partners; World Class Faculties in Logistics and Supply Chain Management; Shipping Lines/Agents; Providers of Information Technology for Logistics; Warehouse Operators; Researchers; Government Institutions Public Sector Officials; International and Regional Private; Sector Industry Players; Transport Companies; Manufacturers and Dealers in Trans- port and Logistics Equipment; Representatives of Regional Economic Blocs; Climate change experts. GLC will be the bestplatform for discussions, sharing of experiences, and formation of future collaborations around supply chain sustainability.

The Convention will be highly interactive to facilitate knowledge sharing and networking to provide freight logistics professionals in the EAC an opportunity to link up with their peers from the rest of the world. This will give them exposure to best practices in sustainable logistics, trade facilitation and policy reform as Africa positions herself for the sustainability challenge while pursuing growth and development.

The convention will also enable industry stakeholders to discuss topical and contemporary industry developments such as AfCFTA, trade facilitation, financing and insurance opportunities, technology and professionalism that are critical for the survival of Africa’s transport and logistics industry.

Through presentations and panel discussions, GLC 2024 aims at:

Knowledge Exchange: Facilitating the exchange of insights, best practices, and cutting-edge research and innovations in supply chain and logistics.

Industry Collaboration: Encouraging collaboration and partnerships among stakeholders, including logistics service providers, regulatory authorities, port authorities, manufacturers, retailers, technology companies, and policy makers in the era of sustainable logistics and enhance the capacity to seize growth opportunities.

Future-oriented Discussions: Engaging in forward-looking discussions on emerging technologies, digital transformation, and other trends that are shaping the future of logistics, transport, and supply chain management.

Policy Advocacy: Facilitating dialogue between industry representatives and policymakers to promote a regulatory environment that supports the efficient and sustainable development of the logistics sector.

Global Networking: Providing a platform for logistics professionals to network with industry leaders, potential clients, investors, and partners from diverse geographical regions.

Capacity Building: The convention will seek to explore opportunities for building capacity of Africa’s supply chain and logistics industry to transition and adopt sustain logistics.

Logistics actors in Africa have an important role in the transition to a decarbonised future. This is what GLC 2024 intends to unlock. GLC will therefore be an opportunity to raise awareness, take stock of the global developments, and the progress Africa and especially the EAC region has made, highlight the impediments, and forge a way forward.

Besides sustainability, GLC 2024 will provide an opportunity for the industry to engage on contemporary industry matters and developments such as the Africa Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), financing and insurance for transport and logistics, technology adoption, professionalism and trade facilitation that are critical for the growth and survival of Africa’s transport and logistics industry.

TANZANIA FREIGHT FORWARDERS ASSOCIATION (TAFFA)

Tanzania Freight Forwarders Association (TAFFA) is the sole representative of all clearing, forwarding, and warehousing companies in mainland Tanzania. The formation of TAFFA was born out of the need to have a national voice to represent the interests of logistics service providers in Tanzania. The association has more than 1000 corporate members and is a key stakeholder in the supply chain in Tanzania, EAC and SADC regions.

FEDERATION OF EAST AFRICAN FREIGHT FORWARDERS (FEAFFA)

The Federation of East African Freight Forwarders Associations (FEAFFA) is a region- al private sector apex body of the Customs Clearing and Freight Forwarding (CFA) industry in East Africa representing over 2500 CFA firms. The Federation aims to promote a professional freight logistics industry for trade facilitation and regional economic growth. FEAFFA strives to address the challenges experienced by its members at the Association and firm levels through the provision of training and other aspects of capacity building. It advocates for the removal of barriers that impede the full implementation of the East African Community (EAC) Customs Union.
