YuMi robot

A FEW days ago, I was lucky to be one of the journalists who travelled to Johannesburg in South Africa to see the great technological revolution brought by the ASEA Brown Boveri (ABB) company headed by Zurich, Switzerland.

In the long run, the thrilling experience is the launch of a precise YuMi robot to safely work side by side with human beings. The launch was held in the Sandton Convention Center in Johannesburg and attended by various people including technological stakeholders from different countries around the world.

ABB’s President of Robotics and Motion division, Sami Atiya

YuMi’s workpiece is operated by a Tablet (computer) where first user should hold hands and to direct what he or she does, including engaging in work.

Afterwards, you install a tablet that is connected to the robot system and focuses on what you need to do, then the robot will start working according to the instructions you set and differ from human, capable of doing a lot of precise, repetitive work for several hours without the presence of anyone around its core is just setting up a computer.

Speaking to journalists and various stakeholders of technology issues within the Sandton Convention Center, the ABB’s President of Robotics and Motion division, Sami Atiya says, YuMi has been a great help in a variety of industries doing small parts assembly, such as electronics. ABB robots are also being used to automate processes like footware production, where they can manage a complex mix of colour, size and shape options to create many varieties of shoes.

The objectives of the ABB Company, whose headquarters are Zurich, Switzerland being over 100 countries and having more than 136,000 employees, is to ensure that the robot works more and more efficiently in various industries.

Today ABB robots can be found helping automotive factories, packaging food and beverages, and helping to automate busy shipping and logistics centres.  In addition, YuMi is found everywhere from making wrist watches, kitchen faucets and toys to packaging food and medical laboratories. The next one is so exciting!
