Dar es Salaam Tuesday 7 March 2023 The Minister ofInformation, Communication and Information Technology Nape Nnauye has commendedthe Minara Tanzania Limited for fast tremendous growth since they entered thecountry terming it as a positive impact the following government’s effort ofcreating a friendly atmosphere for both local and international investors. Theminister made the remarks when he made a working visit to the company’spremised which are located in Dar es Salaam yesterday.

Minara Tanzania Ltd is engaged in providing businesssupport services and operates as a joint between SBA Communications Corporation(“SBA”) and Paradigm Infrastructure Limited (“Paradigm”) formed a joint venture(“JV”) to acquire and operate c1,400 sites from Airtel Tanzania in 2021,focused on developing, owning and operating shared passive wirelessinfrastructure in the market. The company offers a critical wirelessinfrastructure that supports the expansion and quality of mobile connectivityto all corners of the country.  Providing opportunities to the mobileoperators to both outsource their infrastructure and receive the substantialbenefits and provide competition in the country.

‘I’m very happy that for the quickprogress you have made just after a very short period of time after enteringthe Tanzania market. It’s obviously that your investment is here togrow. I want to assure that the government will continue working closelywith you with an aim of investment climate in the country in order to give youa room for growing our economy’ said Nnauye while also commending the companyfor investing on creating employment for local Tanzanians and at the same timefor paying taxes which he termed as way of increasing the country’s strongeconomy.

Nnauye added, ‘I do understand that yourinvestment falls to the docket of communications sector of which I’m leading. Itake this opportunity to assure you that my office will offer the requiredsupport and cooperation to Minara Tanzania in order for you to enjoy businessenvironment of which will lead you to continue growing’.

During his tour, the minister also visited the company’sNetwork Operations Center (NOC) that monitor and secure towers on a 24/7 basis.The NOC allows Minara to look after the sites once they are installed, formaintenance and also potential emergencies thus securing the continuous networkservices provision.

‘I commend you for investing much on digital as I have seenhow your Network Operations Center (NOC) works. I have learned that you providethe state-of-the art which monitors all your sites and performs all ongoingmaintenance service. For this investment, I would like to assure thegovernments support so that you can continue to grow,’ the Minister added.

Earlier, when welcoming the Minister,Minara Tanzania Ltd Chief Operating Officer Gordon Porter said the company hasgrown so fast in the past one year. Minara plays critical role in advancing thegovernment’s agenda on broadband connectivity, particularly in rural areas andour support to the initiatives related to the Universal Communications ServiceAccess Fund (UCSAF) – over 80 sites, half in rural areas.

‘We entered into the country early lastyear after acquiring 1,450 Airtel sites. As to date, we have managed toincrease the sites to 1,500. Our growth has been attributed to good investmentclimate in the country and a good cooperation and relationship we have beenreceiving from the government. I take this opportunity to comment thegovernment and assure you that Minara Tanzania Limited is here to stay’, Portersaid.

He added that the company has beenemploying locals both direct and indirect as well as offering training. ‘Ouraim has been to empower and engage locals on our sites. We believe that thiscountry has potentials and one of our target is to empower them. We willcontinue training and investing on them as a way of creating employment andsupport the government’s efforts of creating employment for Tanzanians’.

Porter said that the company willcontinue working closely with other stakeholders including the TanzaniaCommunications Regulatory Authority (TCRA), Universal Communications ServiceAccess Fund (UCSAF) and Municipals as a way of creating strong communicationindustry in the country.
